It ingeniously merges the rigidity of engineering plastics with the molding ease of thermoplastics, making PPO the go-to material for applications where precision, durability, and resilience to harsh conditions are non-negotiable. Basic Properties of Polyphenylene Ether
1. These are white particles, boasting excellent comprehensive performance. They can endure 120-degree steam, showcasing brilliant electrical insulation and minimal water absorption, yet have a propensity for stress cracking. Modified PPO effectively mitigates this stress cracking.
2. With superior electrical insulation and exceptional water resistance, this material offers impressive wear resistance, electrical performance, and dimensional stability. Its dielectric properties lead the pack amongst plastics.
3. MPPO represents an advanced material forged by blending PPO with HIPS, and all commercially available variants belong to this category.
4. It boasts exceptional heat resistance, with a glass transition temperature of 211 degrees, a melting point of 268 degrees, and tends to decompose when heated to 330 degrees. The greater the PPO content, the better the heat resistance, achieving a heat deformation temperature of up to 190 degrees.
5. Exhibiting commendable flame retardancy and self-extinguishing properties, it shows moderate flammability when combined with HIPS. Lightweight and non-toxic, it serves efficiently in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. However, it has limited light resistance and may discolor with prolonged sun exposure.
6. It can be adeptly blended and modified with materials like ABS, HDPE, PPS, PA, HIPS, and glass fiber.
